Privacy Regulation Recommendations Update

The Attorney-General has consented to a majority of the proposed privacy regulation recommendations, approving some of the 116 recommendations presented. However, a key recommendation which would allow consumers an unqualified opt-out of receiving targeted advertising, particularly in loyalty programs, was not accepted.

Despite this, plans are in motion to introduce legislation resembling the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) commonly applied in the European Union. This upcoming legislation is expected to significantly influence privacy management and data protection practices.
