Loyalty Discounts Under Review
Countdown and UK supermarkets offer discounts for loyalty members; UK regulator to review fairness. Tesco and Sainsbury's schemes include thousands of products.

Lower supermarket pricing for loyalty program members is a prominent feature in many supermarket chains. This approach will be utilized by Countdown Supermarkets / Woolworths with the February launch of Everyday Rewards in New Zealand, a strategy already common in the UK through various supermarket loyalty programs.
The approach is under scrutiny by the UK regulator, which intends to review the strategy to ascertain the fairness of offering lower prices exclusively to loyalty program members.
Major UK supermarkets have implemented this strategy extensively. Tesco, for example, offers 8,000 products at discounted prices through its Clubcard Prices scheme. Similarly, Sainsbury's covers 6,000 products under its Nectar Prices program.
